About essay
Ever wondered what MAAT is and its meaning? The purpose of this modern building is to be a space for international dialogue, critical thinking and debate. Located on the coast of Lisbon in Belem, it is easy to reach and is a must-see! Take the opportunity to visit the exhibitions, stroll through the spacious terraces and admire the view of the Tagus river and the 25 Abril Bridge. More about this image here. A lack of free flowing information can even be damaging to the URBEX community in general, although the silly competition to be first is stupidly entertaining.

Critical thinking is the ability to apply reasoning and logic to new or unfamiliar ideas, opinions, and situations. Thinking critically involves seeing things in an open-minded way and examining an idea or concept from as many angles as possible. This important skill allows people to look past their own views of the world and to better understand the opinions of others. It is often used in debates, to form more cogent and well-rounded arguments, and in science. The ability to think critically is essential, as it creates new possibilities in problem solving.

But it certainly helps when students want to read the text. Below, we offer ideas from students and teachers who have engaged with these images for ways to use them, or images like them, to teach close reading and visual thinking skills.
